Born in Bramhall, Cheshire and raised in Derbyshire, I now live and works near the River Trent in Nottingham in a self- built zero carbon house/studio.
I see myself predominantly as a ‘maker’ of work as much as a painter and collage my works from various materials, many of them recycled.
Paint-wise I have worked in oils, acrylics and encaustic, giving my work a layered and three-dimensional quality.
Prior to becoming an artist, I was for many years an actor, training at the Drama Centre in London and being part of the English Stage Company at the Royal Court Theatre in London. I also appeared in many TV series, films and National Theatre productions. The experience and training I gained through this work has been fundamental in developing my approach to and inspiration for my work using emotional analysis to express that which makes us human.
I began my art training studying Textiles at the Royal College of Furniture and then studied at Leicester De Montfort and Nottingham Trent Universities.
I have exhibited widely including at the Mermaid Theatre, Nottingham Playhouse, Oriel Contemporary, The Royal Festival Hall, The Bonington Gallery, The Wallner Gallery, Nottingham Castle, Leicester City Gallery, The Harley Gallery, Newstead Abbey, The Steidel Gallery in Austin, Texas and the Gedock Gallery in Karlsruhe, Germany.
My work is in collections owned by British Airways, Nottingham Trent University, Nottingham University Department of Biomolecular Science and the UK National Collection as well as various private collections.
