My work is predominately painting but I also make project responsive work that usually comes about following residencies and collaborations with other professionals. Since before the pandemic I have been working on a series of paintings that are inspired by predictive graphs. Whilst making this work I have been visualising states of flux, far away mountains, deep sea vents with their own ecosystems, the tactility of fur and decadent towers of melting ice-cream. Through combining these natural and synthetic mental images, my aim is to explore the alternate realities that are alongside our daily lives.
My work as a whole looks at tensions between nature and human society. I look into different branches of science exploring aspects of ecosystems, human anatomy, quantum mechanics and climate change. I am attracted to the synthetic colours in consumer goods, organic looking curves and moulded shapes in plastic. By combining scientific data, manmade objects and other paraphernalia, my work blends the factual and the frivolous, micro and macro, making the finished work both serious and whimsical.
