Svetlana Shalygina 1973-2023

Svetlana Shalygina was born in 1973 in former Soviet Union and immigrated to USA when she was 20 years old. She worked hard to build a life in a foreign country all by herself, but always found time to sketch, paint and create. Deeply fascinated by classical art, poetry and literature since early childhood, she dreamed of studying art in New York. After realizing the expansive goal of formal art education was to never become reality, Svetlana moved to Phoenix, AZ where she found quiet and mysterious beauty of desert incredibly inspiring - it was dramatically different from anything she had ever seen before, and so she dove into creating full time. In the years that followed she traveled the United States and Europe, relentlessly visiting museums, art shows and exhibitions, and admiring architecture and atmospheres of Milan, Paris, Rome, Vienna and many others, while developing her self-taught skills and style, which made her creative path that much more unique. Svetlana’s art is a testament of her profound interest in human behavior and emotions, love of nature, poetry, diverse cultures and an incredible ability to see the beauty in everything that came in her path.
