Sonia Wang

I was born and raised in Hangzhou, China, a city known for its beauty, romance, and deep cultural heritage. This environment inspired my love for classical, refined art, while the vibrancy of modern Hangzhou also drew me toward contemporary forms. Since moving to Canada in 2020, I’ve been captivated by the openness of Western culture and the striking wildness of the Atlantic coast. This fusion of Chinese and Western influences offers me endless inspiration, and I hope viewers find both aesthetic beauty and a unique cultural blend within my work.

I began studying painting in childhood, initially under the guidance of an oil painter. My formal education in art history at the China Academy of Art, along with hands-on training in mediums such as oil painting, watercolor, Chinese brush painting, and woodcut printing, has provided me with a rich foundation in the arts. In the past decade, my focus has been primarily on Chinese brush painting. Since moving to Canada, I’ve begun exploring the fusion of Western painting techniques with traditional Chinese art.
