Maika Sano

I am an artist whose work explores the quiet poetry hidden in everyday life. Originally trained in fashion, I draw from my background in craftsmanship and fabric manipulation to create delicate, textured artworks that invite viewers to pause, feel, and reflect.

Inspired by my grandfather, a tailor, I began my creative journey through clothing design. Over time, my practice evolved beyond garments, giving rise to textile-based art that transcends function and enters the realm of emotion and memory.

My pieces are deeply tactile, incorporating techniques such as hand-smocking, embroidery, and pleating. Each work begins with quiet observation—of light filtering through a curtain, the rhythm of a quiet morning, or the unnoticed beauty of worn materials. From these subtle moments, she constructs forms that evoke stillness and subtle movement—expressions of life quietly blooming in unseen corners.

Every piece is designed and made entirely by hand, emphasizing slowness, intention, and one-of-a-kind detail.

I studied at the Skals School of Arts and Crafts in Denmark and graduated from Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo.
