Rachelle Allen-Sherwood

My work investigates the concepts of Motion and Space. From dancing atomic particles to the flying patterns of starlings, movement is the underlying thread that connects everything in our known universe. Movement brings space to life.

My work process references Asian calligraphic methods but only for drawing. The results evolve spontaneously and mark making is intuitive. Images emerge aleatorically and, ideally, begin to take on a life of their own. Improvisation is also an aspect of my work.

Influences are Cy Twombly, John Cage, Hakuin, Isamu Noguchi, GUTAI , Kengo Kuma, Noh Theatre and Baroque music
