Candace Knapp

I was born in Michigan. I have lived about 25 different places, mostly in the United States and Sweden. I am now in Florida.

Sculptures are living entities to me. My work is full of implied movement. My violins whirl and dance, my pianos toss their keys in the air and my shells curl up and roll away. Each gesture expresses a feeling and each shape has a personality. Seemingly abstract shapes are ripe with associations and there are surprises around every corner. My life is like this too.

I have a BFA degree in Sculpture from the Cleveland Institute of Art and an MFA degree in Sculpture from the University of Illinois. I also attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, in Maine, USA. I did several traveling installations when I lived in Texas. I married Bjrn Andrn and lived in Sweden in 1989. My work was represented by Gallerie Ostermalm in Stockholm. I have done several public art commissions in Florida since moving here, for the City of St Petersburg, Tampa, and Hillsborough County Public Art Program. I have a sculpture in the permanent collection of the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art; The Mobile Oil Corp., Stockholm ; the Miaoli Wood Sculpture Museum, Sanyi, Taiwan and other places. My most recent exhibition was an international invitational exhibition at the Miaoli Wood Sculpture Museum in Taiwan Fall of 2007. Eleven of my sculptures were exhibited.,
