Alona Hryn

Alona Hryn is a Ukrainian artist born in Poltava (Ukraine) in 1987. In spring 2013 immigrated to Germany, where she resides and works in Braunschweig. Alona is a research-based artist who approaches the connection between the past and the present, the role of human beings as both a bearer and observer of history, and the impact of migration and colonial context over the centuries to the present day.

She highlights the multifaceted interaction between the past and the present through the fluidity of beauty and the feeling of the moment. Alona’s art serves as an invitation to pause and become witnesses to time.

Her work spans diverse media and surfaces, including watercolor, acrylic, pastel, and hot wax on paper, canvas, and unconventional surfaces like wood, tile, and murals.

To expand her expertise, she has visited several factories of art materials manufactures - Hahnemühle (April 2018), Royal Talens (May 2018), Escoda (March 2019). Alona’s artistry has been showcased through collaborations, such as paper testing project for Hahnemühle (2018) and live demonstrations at Creativeworld for ShinHan (2019).
