Tony Vanderperk was born in 1944 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. His father
Jacob van der Perk was Dutch and his mother Alida de Callafon was of French descent. The family immigrated as WW II war refugees to the USA in 1957.
From 1963 to 1968 Tony Vanderperk attended the John Herron School of Art and received his BFA in 1968 from Indiana University. In 1967 he had been awarded a Fellowship to the Yale Summer School of Music and Art in Norfolk, Connecticut. Then in 1968 he was accepted into the Yale Graduate School of Art and Architecture where he received his MFA in 1970. While at Yale he studied under Alfred Leslie, Al Held, William Conlon and Knox Martin.
His first one-man show of paintings was in 1974 at the Susan Caldwell Gallery on West Broadway.. In 1976 he was included in the Brooklyn Museum Show "Fifty Years of American Printmaking". From 1974 to 1980 he had two more one-man shows and participated in several group shows at the Susan Caldwell Gallery. He also invited to participate in "Constructs" 1977 and in 1978, both displayed at the United States Federal Plaza in New York City. In 1980 Tony Vanderperk was awarded an Individual Artist Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Today on St. Croix, Tony Vanderperk has had two shows at the Walsh Metal Works Gallery. "Plus and Minus" in 2013 and "Diagrams" in 2015.
