Anton Winzer

My name is Anton Winzer and I am born June 13th 1959 in Salzburg, Austria. After a break of nearly 20 years I started 2009 painting again, doing photography and digital work … beside my work as personal assistant for handicapped people in their houses. That brought me a burnout with a following depression in 2014.

Through my artwork I came out of that depressive state again and I decided, even if I stay poor, I never will leave my artist path again. At the moment I get a minimal pension from the state, as basic income. I have a bed, a roof above my head and food to eat, which makes an anyway happy artist out of me.

I think my work is outstanding and unique, with a very wide range I can play with. I don’t like borders, so I damage them in not following only one path of that many possibilities art offers. I love to walk and examine them all!

My outstanding talent for drawing and painting was already recognized during my years at primary school in Liefering (oldest existing work from 1968).

1969-1973 attended art classes with Herbert Stejskal at the Werkschulheim Felbertal (technical vocational high school ) in Ebenau near Salzburg.

1973 the opportunity of a grant for participation in the Salzburg International Summer Academy of Fine Arts was rejected by my parents.

1979 together with artists Kurt Baumfeld and Wilhelm Lukarsch, I joined an artists' commune on La Gomera, Islands, Spain. Influenced by the works of Piet Mondrian, Jean Miró and Dadaism, I produced splatter-screen and encaustic paintings, watercolours, and charcoal and pencil drawings. I also handcrafted objects (jewellery, belts, bags) for street trading.

1982 self-taught photography (mainly b/w) and dark-room developing in Salzburg; began writing poems.

1989 freelance press photographer for the Salzburger Tagblatt newspaper until its discontinuation in 1990.

1992 photographs commissioned by Studio X advertising agency, Salzburg, for the anniversary of the Salzburg waterworks.

1993/94 photographs for the BWT company in Mondsee, on the theme of water
