In images that are at once haunting and resplendent, visionary and melancholy, Luis Torres presents a strange world of post-apocalyptic barrenness and beauty - a world defined alternatively by celestial illumination and ominous dusk. Angelic human figures are rendered alien by formidable masks or corporal fabrications, and Torres' landscapes describe shadowy ravines, skeletal architecture, austere trees and ethereal skies. Into numinous apparitions of these brooding landscapes and strange, dreamlike figurations, Torres also incorporates text, with words that linger on the horizon like a preternatural message, or hover in the foreground as a mysterious, futuristic encoding. "I like to present in my images this inner world," he says, "populated by weird and beautiful characters that are reflections of my feelings, obsessions, and desires." Born in Mexico City, Torres received his degree in graphic design and communications from the UAM University. After working for many years in advertising and design, Torres began working in post-production studios and has since won several awards for his short films and illustration work.
