Torsten Schmidt – Abstract-Expressive Artist Inspired by Dynamics and Spatial Curves Torsten Schmidt’s work exists at the intersection of art and engineering, blending abstract expressionism with a deep fascination for dynamic forms and spatial curves. His paintings, characterized by bold, intense colors and created with thick layers of acrylic paint applied by palette knife, capture a raw energy and vibrant motion that immediately draw the viewer in. As an engineer and designer in the amusement industry, Schmidt designs roller coasters and water slides, crafting precise and functional spatial curves that thrill and inspire. These dynamic shapes serve as a creative foundation for his art—yet on canvas, they are deliberately dissolved, reinterpreted, and transformed into free-flowing, expressive forms. Schmidt’s artistic journey began in his school years, where he explored sculpture and participated in art-focused study trips. His passion for both technical precision and creative exploration led him to study Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Design, bridging the gap between these two worlds. After years dedicated to technical innovation, Schmidt rediscovered painting two years ago as a powerful tool for self-expression and creative freedom. Through his art, Torsten Schmidt aims to demonstrate that there is no contradiction between technology and art—instead, they can coexist harmoniously, inspiring and enriching each other. His paintings invite viewers to feel the energy and dynamism infused in every stroke, to let themselves be guided by the movement within the artwork, and to experience the vibrant force that flows through each piece.
