I had a large blank 48”x 36” canvas sitting in my studio for over a year, and held off painting on it because I felt that I wanted to save it for something special. When Prince died unexpectedly I knew immediately that this is what I had been saving this canvas for. To me, what made Prince special was the fact that he never moved away from Minnesota. I was born in Minnesota and have lived my whole life in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, and for all that time Prince has been a part of life here. I admire him for knowing what he wanted to do, and not letting record companies or anyone else compromise his vision. My painting of Prince is an expression of the sadness and loss that the world felt when he left us too soon.
