Collins Gandor was born in Sogakofe, a town in the Volta region, Ghana. He was raised in Ivory Coast and came back to Ghana when he was 18 years old. Gandor has always been an Art enthusiast since he was born. Gandor’s artistic journey has evolved through various phases, each deeply rooted in an exploration of form, memory, and human experience. Initially, his practice delved into the intersection of painting and sculpture, drawing inspiration from the rich, tactile traditions of African art which later led him to the next phase where he reflected on the human body, not merely as a physical form but as a vessel for accumulated memories, a living archive shaped by time and experience. He later became intrigued by the evolving relationship between humans and machines, focusing on how technology reshapes our understanding of identity, labor, and interaction. This intersection of organic and mechanical worlds invited a deeper inquiry into the boundaries of the human condition. Currently, his works draws on both personal and global socio-political issues, reflecting the complex political realities of his country and contemporary life. He draws inspiration from the works of the Classical, Renaissance, and Baroque masters, whose attention to form, drama, and the human spirit continues to inspire him. By merging these historical influences with present day concerns, he aims to create art that not only reflects the world we live in but also prompts a dialogue on its future. Gandor’s works is a blend of mixed media with a layering of techniques such as serigraphy, stenciling, image transfer, weaving etc…
