Take me with you Painting

I am an abstract painter, indie rock songwriter and professional graphic designer. One discipline influences another as I move between each on a daily basis. I am deeply influenced by the world around us writ large and I find myself distilling these thoughts into these various forms. My artwork is firmly embedded and grounded in experiences that unfold before us on a daily basis and feel that it is necessary to go to where the words stop. I am an American painter living in Lagos, Portugal, I utilize household paints and construction materials to create my abstract paintings. Latex, acrylic and spray paints are my primary medium. I also construct my own structural and decorative framing from scratch. I use house painters canvas and fiberboard for surface materials. I paint with remnant scraps of framing wood or recycled plastic as scrapers and rarely use brushes. The work has an organic feel through the creation process. Since moving to Portugal in 2024, I have been creating unframed works on fiberboard. I have also been a graphic designer for more than 25 years. I combine traditional graphic design principles with unique painting processes to bring my works to fruition. Since moving to Lagos, Portugal in 2024, I have been creating unframed works. One of my biggest influences was my grandfather Marcel, who was a golf shoe maker at Footjoy in Brockton, Massachusetts for thirty years. He could build anything with his hands. He could often be found in his small wood shop behind his house in Winter Park, Florida. As a child, I would marvel at his ability to construct various projects with whatever materials he had available. His inventiveness inspires me to this day.
