Peter Mendelson (b. 1967) Peter Mendelson is a Connecticut-based fine art photographer.   Peter’s work reveals an almost anthropological fascination with the evolving relationship between people and the environments they shape. With a refined sensitivity to the emotional resonance of color and form, his photography captures the layered imprint of culture, time, and transformation in both urban and coastal landscapes. Yet beyond documentation, his images often tap into a shared visual memory—evoking collective experiences and a sense of nostalgia that connects viewers across generations and geographies. In addition, an extended childhood stay in Italy introduced him to the classical principles of composition and the rhythms of Italian life—an influence that continues to shape his artistic vision.   Peter’s award-winning work has been exhibited in galleries across Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. His fine art prints are held in both private and professional collections, and his photography has been featured in a variety of publications spanning art, design, travel, and style. Recent awards include the following: International Color Awards, Honorable Mention and Nominee PX3 Prix de la Photographie Paris, Gold Award PX3 Prix de la Photographie Paris, Silver Award refocus Color Photography Contest, People’s Vote Award refocus Color Photography Contest, Honorable Mention PhotoPlace Gallery, Director’s Award, In Honor of Trees  ipa International Photo Awards, Honorable Mention Siena Drone Awards, Shortlisted Siena Color Awards, Shortlisted  Spider Black and White Awards, Honorable Mention After growing up on Long Island, New York, Peter studied history at the University of Virginia before getting his law degree at the University of Pennsylvania. He then moved to New York City, where he discovered his passion for photography. Over time, his work evolved into a distinctive visual language, influenced by masters such as Walker Evans, Andreas Gursky, Robert Polidori, and Harry Gruyaert. He further refined his artistic vision through workshops with renowned photographers, including Todd Hido, Magnum photographers Alex Webb and Matt Black, and NYC street photographer Phil Penman. In 2023, Peter left his legal career to fully devote himself to fine art photography.
