Vardan was born in the South of Russia. He had his first solo exhibition at the age of 10. After graduating from public art school, he was accepted into an art school for future Academy of Fine Arts students. Vardan’s work is a process that transforms ordinary matter into an extraordinary form that connects the realm of dreams and feelings with the material world. Archaic Conceptualism is a style that he has developed over many years. This is a continuation of the style created by his beloved teacher Ernst Neizvestny. Vardan is a third-generation sculptor in his family. He comes from the noble Armenian dynasty of Melik-Yeaganyan of Arzach and the family of the Catholicos Ghougas I of Cilicia,1731–1737. In 1992, he graduated with an MFA from the Academy of Fine Arts in Russia and is currently working on his Ph.D., with a thesis dedicated to the Cappella Sistina. Vardan works with traditional materials including stone, bronze, steel, and glass, and has participated in many projects worldwide, including monuments, mosaic murals, portrait sculptures, and oversized stained glass as well as Roman, Florentine, and Byzantine mosaics. Vardan’s works are located in private collections in Saudi Arabia, France, England, Italy, Germany, Spain, and Russia. His more recent works are located in California, New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Oklahoma, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. Currently, Vardan is working on his Florentine Collection dedicated to the epic poem by Dante Alighieri, La Divina Commedia. A unique collection containing 100 large canvases.
