In a reinvention of the natural world, Kimberly Sasser imbues each of her creations with an infectious magical energy that teaches us to find the beauty hidden in plain sight. Born and raised in Arcadia, Florida, she embraced the lush environment and her small-town lifestyle. Always immersed in nature, running barefoot, grounding herself to the Earth, she felt at one with the flora and fauna that flourished around her. It was a place of belonging. She would escape into the unknown of the wilderness and find herself fueled with a creative spirit. What others perceived as different or eccentric was merely her own touch of fairy dust. Despite pursuing other professions, her desire to share her distinctive approach to beauty, nature, and the universe encouraged her to return to her creative roots and begin experimenting with new forms of artistic creation. She witnessed, throughout her life, the overlooked majesty within juxtaposing moments — old and new, light and dark, death and rebirth. She transforms found objects, repurposing and reconfiguring them into sculptural forms that challenge our understanding of the world. Often using vintage items, taxidermy, and trinkets, she embraces the ephemerality of life itself. No work of art is the same, as she experiments with form, meticulously collects her objects, and allows them to authentically coalesce into new beings. She manifests fantastical worlds that radiate with a familiarity to our own. Her imagination takes a tangible visual form as the neglected splendors, that only she can see, emanates. From the darkness, she adds a touch of light that sparks a connection in her viewers. Color, sparkle, and her own unique vision bring this otherworldly alternate reality to life before our eyes. The captivating and exuberant essence of her creations asks each of us to look beyond the surface in our everyday lives. Embrace the perfectly imperfect.
