Dana Jakovica

I was born in Riga and raised in middle class family of financial specialists and small business owners. I lived with my mother, stepdad and brother in a small house 30 minutes south from city town. From 16 years old I was working on summer jobs helping in family business and later working in the factory as an assistant to the office – any job that would earn money.

I studied in local university receiving a degree in financial field and majored in international economic relations. For short time in 2017 I had a job as a casino dealer. I took up painting in 2019, when my friend bought me a set of watercolors as a gift. My earliest paintings, under the brand name ArtByJakov, were copies or pastiches of pop stars watercolor paintings in impressionist style. Much of the influence came from memories of Italian landscapes, from the time I took half year exchange at University of Trento. My first solo exhibition is planned on March 2020. The first sculpture collaboration project was with NEAT concrete design.

The upcoming solo exhibition of large scale canvases is planned on July 2020. It is a truly an important mainstay in my journey as an artist. The seaside painting serie is inspired by the sea views during the summer time. I have such deep and loving feelings for the sea in summer time. Just by closing my eyes I can see its vivid colors. The way how the rays of sun are playing on the surface of the waves on a bright sunny day makes my heartbeat rise. By creation of the seaside serie I wanted to capture all the moments of time that you spent on the seaside during the hot summer day.
