Bill Smith

I have a life-time involvement with sculpture. I started with 3 years studying life-modelling. Worked as assistant to Henry Moore (1961-62). Taught sculpture at Sunderland and Norwich Art Schools. Then went self-employed designing and making furniture. Stopped teaching 1980. Now enjoying retirement, making sculpture in a state of play.

One man show at People's Theatre, Newcastle, 1964-65; The Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle with John Dee, 1965; Cardiff Sculpture Exhibition, 1965.

Long period of dormancy whilst teaching. A gradual rediscovery of my essential thread since 2000. Now doing my best work. Just exhibited at Cockley Cley for the second consecutive year.
