Patience; a virtue which is lost in a world of instant gratification.
Not a naturally patient person Briar is however a perfectionist. Unfortunately one cannot live without the other, so photorealist drawing presented itself as a unique kind of challenge. With each work taking countless hours she had to go against her desire for immediate results and learn to be patient; with herself and her drawing.
Patience guides her to make each mark, tiny and precise. Patience compels her to fill in each detail as if it were to be seen, but often goes unnoticed overlooked by the bigger picture. Patience, her counsel, reminds her that all practice is progress. The paradox of this new found patience; she has overcome a need for perfection and has simply fallen in love with the process, not as a means to an end but as a means to creation.
Briar’s artwork can be characterised by the brilliant and richly saturated colours which give a luminescence so striking that they come alive before your eyes.
