My art explores both the micro and the macro, from human interaction to bio- and eco-logical systems to the physical, spiritual and mental forces that shape our reality.
Each work is born at the intersection texture, viscosity, gravity and the sub-conscious mind. When I paint I'm performing a jazz solo. Texture forms the foundation, the "comping" for the other players in this trio. Works are always created flat, often using fluid flow and gravity. The rhythm section fleshes out the overall composition, while I pull creative inspiration from wherever it originates. Soon it's time to wrap it up and cut to the final sequence of visual notes. The final form may not appear until late in the process, or even after completion when there is more time to reflect on what has been created. That, of course, is where your mind comes into play too...for your interpretation -- through your experience and your vision -- is the ultimate stage in the creation process.
