Shenglian Lin

I am LIN Shenglian, here I would like to introduce my son, a young artist, CHEN Zequan.

CHEN Zequan is valued for his large "hitting art". He has not drawn any sketches for his creation, and only by a series of improvised intuitive actions to complete the paintings, sometimes it feels more like an athletic sport or a competition. Color evolved and rhythmic changed in the action of repeatedly hitting the canvas, forcing the viewer's eyes to constantly search for and experience the speed, explosion, and infinite inner expansion in the paintings that brought by the actions of hitting, scraping, and the patchy color blocks. His painting is no longer an aesthetic design, but a carrier of human movement dominated by his heart; Painting is no longer to express emotion through image or form, but becomes a direct record of the artist's emotion. His unique style has the characteristics of freedom, unrestrained, ignoring the objective and space delimitation, reflecting the mentality and actions of young people in China's reform and opening up to break away from tradition and pursue freedom.

Zequan's creation comes from his love for color and constant experimentation, and also are deeply influenced by campus life, nature, science, and music...

CHEN Zequan was born in 2010 in Xiamen CHINA. He is a student in junior high school now.

Every child is born with a special love and sensitivity to color, and likes to paint his feelings and perceptions with colorful brushes. Here, Chen Zequan is no exception. Since he was able to write, he often graffities on the paper. He's always happy with making the paper full of colorful lines. Slowly, he can capture the emotion brought by things. At this time, he began to graffiti what he saw, experienced and felt. He was especially good at describing the scene where his favorite car was integrated into his personal emotions. Although it is not realistic, from the picture, we can feel the childlike innocence that is good at expression and the childlike interest brought by painting.

In addition to painting with colored pens, Zequan also likes to pinch colored mud and splice small objects. The home's ready-made products, used paintbrushes, finished coke cans, various toys, small wood, and even shells and small stones picked up from the beach have become his props for splicing some bizarre shapes, which is an attempt and experience of volume and space. 2023 Sep. 30th - Oct. 5th solo exhibition of “Vivid Variations - The Chromatic Universe within a Young Mind” was hold in the Beijing Normal University Jingshi Art Museum. The exhibition is initiated by teacher Fan Xi from Tsinghua University, academic hosted by Prof. Dr. Zhen Wei, Vice Dean of the School of Art and Media at Beijing Normal University, doctoral supervisor, and Director of the Jing Shi Art Museum.

2022 July 20th - 27th, solo exhibition of “Flying Childhood - Chen Zequan’s art works exhibition” was hold in the Xiamen Art Museum.The exhibition is initiated by Prof. Lin Chun from the Art Department of Xiamen University, an important member of 1986 Xiamen Dada; academic hosted by teacher Chen Yali from Xiamen Academy of Arts and crafts, Fuzhou University.
