Christel Haag

Mainly a self-taught artist I live and work in Munich in Germany. In 2002 I made the decision to follow my heart and retrain as an artist. I am trying to go to my creative limits while experimenting and giving my artworks my individual expression. Quickly I discovered that I have a deep passion for creating abstract art.
Nature inspires me. Its beauty and harmony, its diversity and colorfulness fascinates me. The marvelous impressions I take home from my travels, I frequently use in their abstract form in my paintings. Also I do work in my colourful, abstract style to express the mood and feeling of a particular moment in time. It is first and foremost the joy of painting, of colors, of the creative process itself and of the energy of being that drives my artistic creation.

I am a self-taught artist but also took classes by leading and well-known artists at prestigious art institutions. The evolution of my paintings does not follow a predetermined concept. Rather, my works gradually evolve in an intuitive and dynamic process. I often contrast thick paint against thin. I might scratch deep into the paint or drag it across the canvas to create blurry rainbows of colour.
The initial shapes, brush strokes and visual rhythm on the canvas are interwoven, overlap or come together in a new way and determine the direction the painting process has to go until a harmonious, coherent painting emerges. My work is joyful and expressive, inspired by time spent outdoors with nature, or moments spent in different cultures and people.
