David Horton

I started working with portraiture in about 2018, working with found images of pop stars, film stars, celebrities. It fascinates me that in our day these celebrities have taken the place of the 'stars' of ancient civilisations - the gods and warriors of classical mythology, with all their faults.
The series has evolved and the ‘portraits’ now are often unrecognisable. Sometimes I focus so closely and tightly on the face alone that I feel these characters could be specific to any moment and any place.
I work almost exclusively in acrylic on paper, I love the immediacy of this medium.
