Jen Saavedra

Jen Saavedra produces work in DC and received her MFA from Pratt Institute. Continuously creating and exhibiting figurative works based in photographic, installation, and mixed media, Saavedra explores the subliminal tension of Discovery, Fear, and Love through identity in the reality of the femme. She has produced works that have been exhibited internationally, and worked professionally in various media.Through this work, I intend to cultivate the connection between the symbolism of ephemeral female existence found throughout various cultures and their culminated translation in relation to our own. This exploration spans the fabled beginnings of existence through the sila na geiges of Celtic origin, the birth of all life from the matrix in the story of the Mexicas, and the visual interpretation of interdisciplinary technological and traditional elements of Fluxus. The vaginal mixed media works explore the subliminal tension of discovery, fear, and love in the realm of the Woman. The openings in the face of the pieces allow the viewer glimpses into intimate conversations, photographic moments of personal inspection, and personal objects representing them both.
