Innokenty Sharkov

Art for me is the language of non-verbal communication. Ceramics bears the stamp of arts and crafts and, therefore, is not perceived by many in the context of modern media. I work with ceramic, aiming to liberate it from purely decorative purposes by synthesizing it with metal, wood, resins, and polymers.

By transforming my reflections and emotional experiences into an art object, I consciously move away from narrativity. I'm looking for ways to make the material speak not through specific visual figurative images, but rather through the texture itself and paradoxes that arise inside the materials.

In general, my artistic practice is driven by the desire to comprehend the meaning of existence. But this goal is unattainable. Once a piece is completed and begins to take on a life of its own, I’m back in action.
