John F. Michael is largely self-taught as an artist. His formal training is in theatre arts as an actor, director, and playwright. After becoming disillusioned with the theatre scene, Michael returned to his artistic roots. Michael's work explores the themes of loss, isolation, dissolution, disenfranchisement, and confusion through stark use of color. Michael lives in North Central Arkansas, USA, with his wife Angie.
"A painting or drawing cannot simply resemble something physical. It must relate intangibles in a restless sort of way. When someone looks at my work, I want them to be constantly moving between exclusion and inclusion, turbulence and placidity, alienation and unity."
