Julia Campisi’s practice places sculptural and photographic modes of inquiry in dialogue with consumerism and identity. Her work is based in appropriating and re-imagining feminine imagery where she transforms the subject matter from complicated sexualized images into simplistic overlooked by-products as a way to investigate how image, object and space become who we are. She layers, deconstructs and reprocesses imagery into collages and sculptures, questioning the complex archeology in which they originated. She builds connections between object and imagery to expose the patriarchal structures that they originated from.

Her work involves a constant re-presentation of visual motifs that hold feminine associations. She is interested in morphing images of women as a way to stop exploiting the body but rather exploit the ideas that form the feminine archetype.
