Tom Irizarry

I have a wild imagination. It fuels my artwork especially when combined with the paint I make from natural sources. I am a tactile person and imbue my work with this quality. I paint places and things large and small. There is a world in a grain of sand as there is a picture in the sky.

Special Processes/Craft
Painting
Creation of historic natural mineral pigments from grade AAA stones. Paint made with walnut oil, linseed oil. Oleo resin glaze painting.
Traditional chalk gesso grounds.
Creation of historic, heat-bodied copal medium and various fossil resin varnishes.

Sculpture
Studied under sculptor Alexander Giampietro.
Figurative sculptures using live models, waste molds, plaster and marble dust.
Carved sandstone, soap stone, plaster.

​Jewelry Design
Studied under silversmith Wendy Yothers.
Hand fabricated , cast silver objects such as monograms, rings and lions feet, hand forged copper and bronze bracelets, electroformed rings and objects.
Sculpted basswood scroll handles and hand fabricated silver and brass 3 inch crosses.
