Loreto Sanhueza

I was born in Santiago, Chile, and drawn to art when I painted my first oil at seven years old. It was at that time, when my mother was posing for a portrait, that I knew that my life would be devoted to art. My paintings reflect the love of the human being for his environment. I am known in my country and abroad for my representations of the Latin American indigenous people. In my pieces I try to show the goodness, wisdom, happiness and beauty of the faces of the native people. I usually paint women, children and elderly people, in a contemplative attitude, surrounded by their everyday belongings and their work tools. My still life paintings are characterized by a richness of textures and weaves on the antique doors, the clay and copper pots, carpets and shawls, all of which show the inherent pass of time. My abstract paintings represent the Pre-Colombian Culture.After my studies I had continued to work on my own, discovering my own techniques, of special interest are my works with gold and silver leaf. I received a special award in painting in Florence Bienalle 2011 with a Medal of Lorenzo the Magnificent.
