Lucie Draai was born in 1979, Bogota, Colombia. She studied at the Willem de Kooning Academie in Rotterdam where she received her bachelor degree. She lives and works in Rotterdam (NL).
Her work investigates the origin and use of materials and techniques. The natural and cultivated processes to which materials and techniques are subject to function differently in various cultures and societies. Within or outside the domain of the arts they can function as cultural, political, scientific, economical and or ecological phenomena. The historic and current significance of these phenomena are translated into new concepts and narratives. Her art practice consists of work on paper, numerous silkscreen experiments and recently exploring a more sculptural and performance based working method.
Recent projects include artist in residence/ working period at AGALAB Amsterdam and Artist Proof Studio in Johannesburg (SA), participant at the Dutch Design Week Eindhoven and Contemporary Art Fair Rotterdam. Since 2009 (on and off) working freelance at West Den Haag as host and production assistant.
