Luke Austin-Heywood

As an art student I became a prolific reader of texts by contemporary and 20th century artists. That fired my passion for the history of art, particularly the form, technique and process of Modernism, the free creativity of Abstract Expressionism, and the structure of late 20th century graphic design. Like all students of the 90s, I also indulged my passion for music - for drum and bass, hip hop and techno – and the rhythm, speed and structure of these forms of music became a fuel for my work in the studio. Since that time, I have worked hard to develop a kind of calligraphy on canvas that is unique to my experience of living and painting".
