Mais Sundermann is the prototype of a contradictory artist:
head and heart, digital and analog, modern and traditional, and other contrasts flow from his life into his work. Born into a German-Bolivian family, raised in Toronto and Munich, Mais became a spirit of two cultures at an early age: extroverted and impulsive through his South American roots, and introverted and mindful of his European environment.
Combining both with creativity was an early passion for Mais.
After graduating from high school in Art and English, Mais began his studies in communication design.
During those studies, Mais took an artistic break at the Hyvinkää School of Art in Finland. His goal was to bring his creative craftsmanship to a new level.
After his studies Mais conquered the world of advertising without ever losing his hunger for art. While working on commercial communication projects, he got the chance to work abroad in Dubai to get new cultural impulses for his creativity.
Today, the paintings of Mais reflect all these opposing influences. His motifs are made of charcoal and pastel, acrylic and collages and are figurative and abstract at the same time.
