Marieke Mertz

Sitting at my childhood dining table about an hour south of Amsterdam is where my love for creating art began. With a stack of white paper and a simple pencil, I tried to capture the interesting faces in my mom’s magazines or made line drawings of animals and plants.

I was born and raised in the Netherlands but have lived in Portland, Oregon USA for many, many years now. I feel fortunate to live with my family in an area surrounded by such inspiring beauty in nature.

I hope viewers of my art feel a deep connection with nature through my work.

I enjoy working with professional grade paint on canvas in contemporary style, using layering techniques to create depth and spontaneous brushstrokes to convey movement.

My subjects often radiate joy and positive energy which I strive to communicate through my colorful paintings. While our world can be so challenging and complicated, my art celebrates the simple joys.
