Marlene Bergman

Painting for me is an exploration of a place that isn't precise or preconceived. Beginning with a color palette, I allow color and texture to develop. My experience is free of expectation; a shared journey and relationship with the materials that give birth to the final work.

I intend for my work to convey an idea, leaving viewers to finish the thought in a way that is unique to their perception, and freeing them to translate an image into their own lives.

Raised in Los Angeles, my creative foundation was first nurtured within its emerging artistic community. I then spent 7 years in Italy, an adventure with an inspired group of other artists, primarily working in the Veneto Region, much of the time learning Italian and painting in Venice. I truly felt fortunate to have had the opportunity to of being engaged with such a stimulating arts community, and to have absorbed the beauty and history of a country so rich in culture and history. In addition to being exposed to more than a thousand years of art and architecture, I was also energized by of Italy's ever-present influence on contemporary art and design.
