Me Fio

"Few contemporary artists capture the mercurial nature of light and colour as compellingly as Mefio, the London-based Slovak artist whose practice stands at the intersection of optical experimentation and sculptural precision. Mefio's work belongs to the rare category of art that refuses to remain static — each piece reveals new dimensions depending on the viewer’s angle, the play of ambient light, or even the mood of the room.

Trained first as a modelmaker — a discipline that sharpened her structural exactitude and meticulous craftsmanship — and later refined through a Master of Arts in Fine Art, Mefio brings together an unusually rigorous technical foundation with an instinct for material innovation. Her use of dichroic glass, metallic films, and layered optical surfaces does not merely seduce the eye; it challenges the way we perceive space, depth, and presence.

At a time when abstraction risks becoming predictable, Mefio reinvigorates the tradition. Her goniochromatic works oscillate between chaos and order, illusion and clarity, drawing viewers into an almost meditative engagement. The shifting colours and refracted light act as metaphors for the instability of perception itself — what appears solid is revealed to be ephemer...
