Melanie Maquinay

Born in Belgium, in 1978.
Painter, also experimenting with 3D creations, Textile art, papier mâché sculptures and upcycling. Mainly focusing on the human body and people's silhouettes in her work, with vivid and harmonious color compositions. Also painting trees, nature and environmental activism related themes, showing vegetal subjects and the struggle between nature and human destruction.
Training : Fine Arts Foundation program at KIAD (Kent Institute of Art and Design, UK ) and 4 years bachelors program in Fashion Design at La Cambre, Brussels Belgium finest Art School.
Then, 2 years Visual arts at San Francisco State University- College of Extended Learning

Paintings : experiments with clothes and fabrics stuck on canvas, playing with the 3D effect and the clothes personality.

Body parts : highly interested in the sense of life and the movement a painting can reflect. You will find all sorts of imaginary faces, shapes, figures and creatures in her drawings and paintings.Therefore, I use live models to draw their outline on canvas, before adding imaginary shapes and vivid colors to the baseline. As I dreamer, love to try out many many different techniques, sometimes all at once !
