Minami Kobayashi

My paintings are primarily concerned with quiet moments of human or animal interaction. Often depicting gently intimate relationships and personal spaces captured through voyeurism, I develop a narrative in painted layers of egg-tempera and acrylics.
My work considers two main areas; narrative in figuration and its relationship to society. I explore mystery and unease through contradictive imagery, extending characters and scenes from old media, my memories of newsreels, films, and dreams. I hide key motifs; resuscitating people, fighting sisters, and mating bees in negative spaces of plant life or human bodies, and in pockets of color.
