Nicolette Peters

Nicolette Peters is an artist based in Waalwijk, the Netherlands. She started developing herself as an artist at the age of 29. After following several painting courses she attended art training and is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Arts to continue her art development.

"As a visual artist I shape my feminine identity. I draw, paint and photograph to give me – and parts of me that had been forgotten – a form of existence, out of love for the self. Culture and female nature are sources of inspiration for my autobiographical work. Where my original self is limited or bounded by conventional ideas in culture, friction arises inside me. I capture those feelings of discord and indistinctness in drawings, paintings and photographs. Sometimes these are related to bigger feminist issues, but more often to everyday matters in my immediate environment.
My oil paintings on canvas are characterized by a photographic realistic style and isolated fragments of the female body — zoomed in and/or enlarged — in a monochrome color palette. In essence, my work is a place where I can be, with all my idiosyncrasies. Reflecting on my being, my way of being a woman, gives direction to my life and meaning to my work."
