“It is not lack of cleanliness or health that causes abjection but what disturbs identity, system, order.” Kristeva, Julia. Powers of Horror: An Essay on Abjection. Columbia University Press, 1982. A projected world of nocturnal ephemeral spaces, Holbrough’s work delineates identity in a trans-corporeality. The liminal transaction of food and consumption, self and environment, exploring ideas of abject corporeality. Flora permeating the spatial divide cast by urban life, confronting the separation of environment and body. Using repetition, local edible flora, and exaggerated abstract forms, Holbrough is amending her relationships with identity and how spaces interact with bodies.
