Raymond Hoggan

I was born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1955 to an Afrikaans speaking mother and Irish father. Our family moved to Namibia (South West Africa). Currently I live in the quaint village of Jacobs Bay, Western Cape, South Africa. I’ve been fascinated by birds and other animals since I could walk. Somehow the independent character shown by each species has been an endless source of inspiration. I am particularly interested in raptors with their watchful eyes and princely dignity. I received formal education at the Cape Art Centre and Ruth Prowse School of Art. Prior to me painting full time and observing birds as a full- time occupation I followed a career in commercial art and advertising.
