My artwork documents my ‘everyday noticings’ and explores these through my love of colour and an array of mediums such as collage, printmaking, painting, drawing and photography.
The common starting point for my work is the close observation of my local landscape, taking the time to really see the patterns in nature, the colour of the ocean or a tiny bright flower bursting from a thick deep green hedgerow. I document theses colours, shapes and thoughts in sketchbooks and then process my ideas back in the studio.
I may have a loose idea for a collection in mind but I soon find myself lost in the creative process itself and my work can then take more of an intuitive approach, responding to the last creative move as I go along. I find myself drawn to exploring juxtapositions, such as colour transparency versus opacity, thick and thin lines, energetic and soothing mark making, wet and dry paint applications. All these components help to portray my unique interpretation of my world onto canvas or paper.
My art practice reflects who I am as a person; curious, colourful, playful and spontaneous.
