Sven Roehrs

My investigations are currently into abstracted landscape painting, predominantly of Australian native trees and colourful gardens throughout the year. I also have a strong interest in ballet and opera, which emerges mainly in my sculptural works. When I paint trees and gardens the colours tend to become more intense and the patterns take on a abstract nature. There is a wonderful intimacy working with and closely getting to know that which surrounds me. Most of my work is large reflecting the size of Australian trees and our surrounds

I have a broad classical training in the arts. I have studied oil painting, bronze sculpture, classical ballet and opera. I have also studied anatomy at the University of Queensland. My art tutors have included George Virine, classical sculptor and contemporary of Picasso in Paris. Portraiture under Daniel Greene in New York (who's commissions have included Eleanor Roosevelt and JFK) Aand Australian contemporary painters including Ian Smith, Joe Furlonger, Sally Le'Strange and Robert Moore.

I have participated in numerous exhibitions over the past 20 years including solo exhibitions at the Brisbane Power House, Circle Gallery, Hassell Architecture as well as a large solo exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany. My works are in the collections of two prior Australians of the Year, the current Qld Senior Australian of the Year, and numerous other private and commercial collections..
