Thushara Mendis

I work and live in UK with my family. I am originally from Sri Lanka. I was brought up and educated in a picturesque environment in Sri Lanka and my home town is Kandy which is covered with mountains and other natural beauties. That environment has led me to draw and paint various landscapes since I was a little girl. I always admire natural beauty and love to do landscape paintings. In the year 2000 I moved to UK to join with my husband. The changing climatic patterns and the beautiful landscapes in UK, gave me a big kick to continue the paintings in different settings, even though I have got a very busy life. I love go for walks and be with the nature, watching changing seasons. I thoroughly enjoy every season. Painting is a meditation for me. I just shut down everything around me when I do a painting. It brings me so much of pleasure.

My other interests other than landscape paintings, are pottery paintings and fabric paintings. Always art had been a pleasurable thing in my life and I love to do any sort of art work during my leisure time.

I have done paintings for various competitions when I was in the primary school and secondary school. Also whenever I get an opportunity I would love to enter into any art competitions....

I have learnt fine art for my GCSE O/L. I am a self taught artist since then. I followed general painting sessions from East Surrey College, UK in 2010 mainly to paint along with other well experienced artists and also to learn and to share the painting knowledge. Also I completed a Diploma in Landscape Painting from London Art College mainly to brush up my techniques. There I got lots of opportunities to do different sort of landscape painting and that has broaden my knowledge.

I am a member of Surrey Art Fairs and I do exhibit my painting in various exhibitions which are organised by Surrey Art Fair. During this year I have done few exhibitions. Recent exhibitions are
On May the 6th in Banstead church hall, Surrey.
From 1st of June to 29th of June 2017, displayed my paintings in Macmillan Cancer Support centre in East Surrey Hospital.

Displayed in Pop Art Gallery in Belfry shopping centre Redhill, Surrey in July.

Also on 1st of October I exhibit my paintings in Gatton Park Hall.

displayed in an open art fair in Earlswood which was organised by Surrey County Council collaboration with Surrey Art Fairs.
