My name is Ofrat Gilady-Sten, and I am a studio potter who has shaped clay with my hands for more than three decades. My background includes extensive studies in textiles and fabric, drawing, painting, world art history, and ceramics. Disciplines that continue to weave themselves into my ceramic work, grounding my approach to form, surface, and material. To stay engaged I have been using various making methods of hand-building and wheel-throwing using porcelain, stoneware, and raku clays.
I moved to the United States with my family three decades ago after growing up in Israel. Before relocating, I earned a Textile Art Instructor Certificate, completed courses at a fashion design school, and finished two years of undergraduate studies in an Art Teaching program.
In the U.S., I continued my art education at Drew University in Madison, where I graduated with a B.A. in Studio Art, focusing on ceramics. Since completing my degree in 2006, I have worked from my home studio while also participating in ceramic classes and workshops. Such as the Visual Arts Center in Summit, NJ, the Long Beach Island Arts Center, NJ and in 2023, completed a three-month ceramic residency at Cobb Mountain Art & Ecology Center in Cobb, California.
I have been exhibited at the Art House Gallery, Jersey City, Long Beach Island, NJ Holiday Markets, Potters Guild of NJ Annual shows, and Trenton Museum NJ to name few.
