ABOUT
EDUCATION
Katerina Makarova is a contemporary artist living and working in Turkey. Drawing is her primary artistic language and a way of thinking and sensing the world.
Her practice centers on line as a form of presence. Through minimal means, she explores inner emotional states that resist direct expression, allowing them to emerge through rhythm, balance, and reduction.
Her artistic language is rooted in minimalism and abstraction, with a strong focus on line and negative space. Over time, she moved away from figurative representation toward states of being, where form arises through simplicity and restraint.
Process and result are equally essential to her work. The act of creating becomes a meditative dialogue — a space where time dissolves and attention turns inward.
She works in series, each unfolding as a complete emotional cycle. A series concludes only when the inner state has been fully lived through, leaving space for the next body of work to emerge.
Educated in drawing and painting at the Elli Yuryeva Art School in Cheboksary.
She later studied Art and Graphic Design in Cheboksary, receiving training in both classical techniques and contemporary visual approaches.
Her education was further shaped through studio practice and independent work with professional artists.
