Georgette Backs

Born on Heron Island, in New Brunswick, Canada, the thirteenth child of the island lightkeepers, on August 4th, 1938.

My work is best described by the viewer, since when I set out to paint, I usually have no idea what will happen on the canvas. The work evolves from a vague idea all on its own.

I am left handed, self-taught, and have exhibited only in Canada, although invited to exhibit in many places, pretty well worldwide.
I don't belong to any art group or gallery at the present time. I am not much of a joiner, but was a member of Gallery 1313 in Toronto until I moved away. Have not sought to join since my return.
Won the "My Favorite N*de" award on Barebrush for the month of December,2007, as well as first Honorable Mention from the curator for my painting "The Puzzle".,
