Bomhér István

From an early age, I was captivated by the surreal and the mind-bending, even before I knew of surrealism as an art movement. My artistic journey has always been about creating visuals that challenge perception, provoke thought, and occasionally add a touch of humor.

Growing up in the rural towns of Székelyföld (Szeklerland), the natural rhythms and landscapes left an enduring mark on my imagination, shaping the dreamlike settings often present in my work. While my cultural heritage as a Szekler is subtle in my art, my experiences in these vibrant, close-knit communities continue to inspire me.

I have had the honor of exhibiting my works in three solo exhibitions in my hometown, Odorheiu Secuiesc (Szekelyudvarhely), and one in Budapest, Hungary. A documentary highlighting my art and heritage was featured on national television and screened for Hungarian ethnic children in schools outside Hungary’s borders, sharing my story with a wider audience.

My creative process is fueled by life itself—its beauty, spirituality, and injustices. I am deeply inspired by the struggles of the modern world: the looming environmental crises, the inequities of global systems, and the resilience of the human spirit. My works often serve as reflection...
