These curious girls peeping over the edge of the hotel pool may give the guests something to talk about! Based in St. Ives, I am a collage artist who reconstructs vintage ephemera into imaginative new scenes, playing with humour, scale, and perspective. My practice is deeply informed by 30 years as a high-fashion hair and make up artist, where I spent decades working alongside photographers to curate and elevate the human image within the editorial frame. Today, I’ve traded the makeup brush for the scalpel, but my focus remains the same: the art of transformation. I scour my mid-century magazine archives for imagery that I can subvert, hand-cutting and repositioning pieces to challenge our perception of the familiar. By stripping away the original context of these vintage materials, I create otherworldly compositions that feel both nostalgic and entirely new. My work is currently represented by George Gallery in Brighton and is held in private collections globally, with recent exhibitions in London and Cambridge.
